I Revised The DADS™ Pledge.
It’s important to start. To sit endlessly in the planning stage means to go nowhere and accomplish nothing. Before I launched DADS™ I spent several weeks writing and refining the pledge with the help of my wife, friends and AI.
I thought the pledge was complete so I decided to start publishing. But since I started writing and publishing articles I have been rereading the pledge and something didn’t seem quite right with it.
So I sat with the problem until this new revision came to fruition. You’ll notice that all the same key elements are there with the original but the flow, tone and practical use of it are different and improved.
I hope you like it. I hope it helps.
I will lead my family — by example and instruction — to be present, build relationships, strengthen the body, and nurture the attributes of love, communication, empathy, kindness, gratitude, humility, forgiveness, critical thinking, imagination, discipline, patience, integrity, resilience, courage, wisdom, and faith. To protect my family, I will not allow social media or unlimited, unmonitored, and unrestricted access to screens, gaming, or the internet in my home, nor will I provide personal smartphones to my children until they demonstrate the maturity to use them responsibly.
For those of you who are thinking “I don’t remember what the original one was; here it is just for comparison.
I will not provide my children with a smartphone or social media access until they become adults. Nor will I allow unlimited, unrestricted or unmonitored access to the internet, streaming services, gaming, or screens in our home. Instead, I will lead my family — by example and instruction — to be present, build relationships, strengthen the body, and nurture the attributes of love, communication, empathy, kindness, gratitude, humility, forgiveness, critical thinking, imagination, discipline, patience, integrity, resilience, courage, wisdom, and faith.
Let me know your thoughts in the comments.
From my home,
